Land of Toys Pobjeda made of bakelite, ”mooncar”, and Rubic’s magic cube – only a few examples of the Hungarian toy production, the history of which between 1945 and 1989 is being presented by the exhibition called ”Land of Toys” in the Museum of Transport. The exhibition also gives the visitor an insight into how economy was managed during this period, as well as into the characteristics of the industrial production of the era.
Toys – just like any other Hungarian product – were produced in three manufacturing sectors between 1945 and 1989: in factories owned by the state, manufacturing cooperatives (according to the 5-year economy plans), or in individual workshops, by the hardly ever supported craftsmen. This way, the toys allow us to gain an insight into the industrial and economic structure of the Hungarian socialist planned economy. |
