Saddle, steering wheel, pedal, brake. How did bicycles form during the centuries? Did you have a running bicycle when you learned to ride the bike?

Did you know that this foot-driven, two-wheeled machine, the running machine – the ancestor of the bicycle – celebrates its 200th birthday? To celebrate this, you find five authentic running machine reproductions between 29th September and 14th October in the Ábrahám Ganz Foundry Collection.

On the 30th of September, we are welcoming our guests for a joint creative family workshop in the former foundry building of Ábrahám Ganz, where you can meet the first stations of the evolution of the bicycle. Through the exhibition you may get an insight into the history and development of the bicycle.

Have you ever thought about what bicycles will ride on the streets 200 years from now? How and where can this means of transport develop? In our museum educational workshop you can design and build the model bicycles of the future which might also be animated through various animation techniques. Bikes made of wood, metal, and paper. On this day you may try our special running bicycle which we prepared of paper and cardboard, in the name of environmental protection. Besides all this, you may also make your bicycle and helmet more visible and spectacular, or prepare your own bicycle accessories.

Did you know that there is a new bicycle road connecting Margit Boulevard and Buda quayside in Bem József Street? Those visitors who arrive on two wheels receive a paper slip and participate in a raffle. Three fortunate visitors will be drawn at 12:30. Arrive on a bike and take a Museum of Transport gift parcel home!
